I’m Rod, but those closest to me call me Rocket. I’m a photographer based in the stunning Airlie Beach, Whitsundays, Australia – a paradise where winter doesn’t exist, just a slightly cooler season. Just a stone’s throw away lies Whitehaven Beach, voted the world’s best, and the breathtaking Great Barrier Reef is practically my backyard.
People often ask, “What kind of photographer are you?” My cheeky answer? “One with a camera!” Truthfully, it depends on the day and the moment. I’m passionate about capturing life as it unfolds – whether it’s a fleeting expression, a vibrant landscape, or the artistry of the human form. Photography isn’t just my craft; it’s how I see the world. While I love all kinds of photography, I’m especially drawn to boudoir photography, where I celebrate the beauty and strength of the female form with elegance and respect.
My journey began with my father, who taught me the art of photography. Early on, I fell in love with wedding photography, capturing the raw emotion of those once-in-a-lifetime moments. But everything changed at 30 when I attended a boudoir session led by a family friend. I was moved to tears by the way the female form was portrayed – not just as beauty, but as art. In that moment, I found my true calling.
Before photography, I trained as a chef, where I learned to craft every plate into a work of art. That same passion for creativity fuels my photography. Whether I’m shooting a wedding, a boudoir session, or even food (yes, the chef in me still loves rearranging plates!), I strive to make every image a timeless piece of art – one that resonates now and for years to come.
My style is bold, heartfelt, and unapologetically me. It may not be for everyone, but that’s the beauty of art. When I’m asked one day what I did with my talents, I’ll proudly point to a life’s work filled with moments captured, emotions preserved, and stories told through my Nikon.
